Issue:  Age of Consent & Abortion Bills On the Move - Scheduled for 2nd Public Hearing

What: Public Hearing on the following key bills:
 
  • SB711 SD1  Raises the age of consent from 14 to 16 if adult is 5 years older.
  • SB809 SD  1 Requires parental notification before a minor daughter receives an abortion.
  • SB 864 SD1  Strengthens commercial sexual exploitation of minors law to better protect minors.  Prohibits promotion of commercial sexual activity (strip clubs, nude massage etc.)
When: Friday, February 23, 2001, 9:00 a.m. (PLEASE NOTE THESE BILLS ARE SCHEDULED AT THE END OF A VERY LONG AGENDA –THEY MAY NOT BE HEARD UNTIL THE AFTERNOON.)

  1. PRAY
  2. Call or fax members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and politely urge them to support the above bills.  They are common, sense, family-friendly-proposals that will better protect Hawaii’s keiki.  National and local polls demonstrate strong support for each of these items.
  3. Attend the public hearing.  To testify, submit faxed testimony 24 hours in advance to 586-6659.  In cover sheet, ask that 30 copies be delivered to Room 202 for the above-identified hearing.
  4. Tell your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to 1,2 or 3 above.
