100+ State Pro-Life Leaders Urge Congress: Take Action to Protect Unborn Children & Mothers
55% Abortions Nationwide Occur in States That Allow Abortion on Demand Until Birth
SEPTEMBER 12, 2022
Washington, D.C. – Today pro-life state elected officials and leaders of over 100 state pro-life groups (INCLUDING HAWAII FAMILY FORUM) from across the county, spearheaded by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, sent a letter to Congress calling on lawmakers to find consensus and pass protections for unborn children and their mothers at the federal level. The letter comes as the White House and nearly all Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate have backed legislation that would expand abortion until the moment of birth and block new and existing pro-life laws.
The letter reads in part:
Many of us are proud that our state will soon move to implement life-affirming legislation whether by reinstating laws previously enjoined, activating laws passed in anticipation of this moment or enacting new laws.
Others of us are from states that lack the will to protect unborn children, choosing instead an extreme commitment to abortion. These states already account for 55% of abortions nationwide. Leaders of the most extreme states like California and New York have made sweeping declarations about their intention to become a “sanctuary” or “safe harbor” for the abortion industry as they profit at the expense of women and children. In fact, California is planning and legislating for a 3000% increase in the number of out-of-state abortions as the abortion industry targets women in life-affirming states that many of us represent.
Not to be outdone by these aggressively pro-abortion state politicians, the Biden administration is poised to respond to the Court’s decision with disastrous policies. They have already taken steps to make abortion pills widely available through the mail and are making plans for abortion at federal facilities across the country…we look forward to working with you to build broad public support for important federal policies including gestational limits, addressing dangerous mail-order chemical abortion, maintaining longstanding laws like the Hyde Amendment and much more.
